Pantera – Drag The Waters

Vinnie “fucking” Paul!  The man is a legend for some brutal ass drumming over some of the most killer riffs of the 90’s and early 2000’s.  I am a huge fan of Vin’s drumming and I really wanted to do a tribute to the guy in the only way I know how -drum cover!  Of course there are many songs I could of chose that would of been a better tribute, but this song right here fits my playing style to a T.  I had a lot of fun playing this one and took my time with it.

I created a new kit for this Pantera track and I think it matches really well with the style that was used on The Great Southern Trendkill album.  I could not find a cowbell in any of my EZX/SDX libraries that fit what was used, so I created my own sample from the original drums only recording; this is included in the download.  I love the toms sound in this preset from the great Darkness SDX.  Hope you guys dig it!

Ghost – Jesus He Knows Me

This right here! This is why I love Ghost so much. They take a song from the prog-rock great Genesis and turn it into something amazing! The irony of choosing to cover this song is just perfect. Ghost is a satanic themed group and this is a fun punch in the gut for all the preacher lovers out there. Fuck yea! Once I heard this track, I knew I had to cover it. The kick pattern is awesome, the riffs are slayin’, and the vocals are screamin! I pushed back my other scheduled drum covers to get this one out today for the release of Ghost’s 5 cover song EP called Phantomime. I had A LOT of fun recording this one and I have not done a Ghost song in a while; so what perfect timing.

As of recent, I have been trying to limit the number of EZX & SDX libraries I use in each song.  It’s a nice challenge but sometimes, you just need to use one library for that one layered snare to get the sound you need; and that’s what happened here.  I was contemplating on removing the additional layered floor tom in this one since it’s the only piece used from the Metal Machine EZX and the floor tom is not even feature on this song.  But it’s the way I designed the kit, so I left it.  The snare on the other hand, I had to leave that in to keep the sound how I wanted it, so be sure you got the Rooms of Hansa SDX.

Type O Negative – Nettie

This is not a very well known song from Type O Negative but it’s a great melodic goth tune that showcases some of Peter Steele’s vocal talents.  I created a completely new drum kit from the ground up (mostly) for this cover.  I decided to dig into some of my Superior Drummer 3 libraries and create something fresh.  This is the kit I came up with.  Many of the cymbals and all of the toms come from the Field of Rock SDX.  I think it sounds pretty wicked and I am loving this new snare drum sound I created from my last drum cover (Our Lady Peace).

Anyways, not a difficult song.  Just my usual, yearly tribute to Peter Steele and the band Type O Negative!

Fall Out Boy – Love From The Other Side

I’ve been a fan of Fall Out Boy for sometime now and I am actually surprised I have no drum covers of any of their songs.  They surely are on my list of bands to cover but I never got around to it until now.  Well we did do an instrumental band cover of the song Dance,Dance a long time ago.  Check that one out if curious.  This new song was suggested by a friend in anticipation of their new album coming out on March 24th.  I took the challenge, got sick in the middle of learning it, but still got it done 1 week earlier than I wanted.  It’s a rockin tune with a pretty sweet kit that I put together…

This track features a new snare I put together from the Fields of Rock SDX and then my usual main preset for the remainder.  Oh, I did grab a china from the Fields of Rock SDX as well.  Hope you guys dig it…

Ghost – Cirice

Ever since I first recorded Cirice (both audio & video), I was not happen with the end results.  The first recording was using Steven Slate Drums 4 and while that sounded better than the Roland module sounds, it was still entry level sounding.  Come 2022, I wanted to redo this one as I got a better video and I was able to find a drumless audio backing track -so now I can showcase my drum sounds & playing to it’s fullest.

This track uses my typical Ghost preset but also included is the added Timpani & cymbal FX stem audio track (in .wav format).
