Goldfinger – Mable

A quick little drum cover today from a favorite band of mine, Goldfinger. Interesting fact: me and John Feldmann (lead singer & founder of the band) share the same birthday, June 29th, and is one of the reasons I decided to cover this song. Another side note, one of my internet band projects did cover this song when I used my old Roland TD-7 drum kit.  You can find that track here:  https://soundcloud.com/mind-blender/mable-goldfinger

With this kit, I wanted to try and get that unique snare sound that was feature on the Goldfinger album.  Man, was it was tough to find something within all the Toontrack libraries I have, so I did my best.  You’ll need the New York Studios Vol. 2 SDX for the snare sound I used.  Enjoy!

Royal Blood – Hole In Your Heart

This song I have been noodling around with for almost 2 years (August 2019) and it just sat waiting to be completed. So I decided to revive it and do a drum cover of it…

Royal Blood just released a new album and the song Boilermaker is phenomenal! Can you believe it’s only 2 guys in this group? Well I am doing one of their older covers and hope you like it. Ben Thatcher is a great groove drummer and he does all these little things in between that make his performances great!

The main kit is pretty much the same but I added a lot of effects for the claps, snaps, and shakers utilizing the Latin Percussion EZX.  Also, Ben used a very trashy crash/ride on this song, so I decided to use the Sabian Ozone Crash cymbal from the NY Studios Vol 2. SDX. Have fun with this awesome tune!

Type O Negative – I Don’t Wanna Be Me

Anybody who knows me knows I am a HUGE Type O Negative fan! No other death of an artist has affected me more than the passing of front man Peter Steele on April 14th, 2010. I had the joy of seeing Type O open for Pantera in the mid-90’s and Peter’s on stage presence was one that commanded respect. So with that, I dedicate this cover to Peter with the upcoming unfortunate anniversary of his death. RIP Pete!

With this track, I change some things around from my normal kit electing to go with different rack toms (Yamaha Beech Custom from the SD3 Core Library) and a DW Collectors Series floor tom (from The Metal Foundry SDX).  The snare is still the same Tama Bell Brass but tweaked for a more snappy crack sound.  Same goes with the kick drum, it’s more usual preset just tweaked a little for a more tight, punchy sound.  I did layer two sounds for the ride from the Drums of Descruction EZX & the SD3 Core Library.

Three Days Grace – Just Like You

Three Days Grace is one of my favorite bands and I am surprised I have never done a single drum cover of them. I mean, how could I not? They hold the record for the most #1 Billboard Mainstream Rock singles, might as well do it; maybe even more covers to come in the future!

As for the SD3 kit I used, I change the toms completely in this song and tweaked the snare quiet a bit. I really like the sound of this kit and it might become my new main favorite kit to use for general rock songs. We’ll see.

Thanks for checking it out!

Smashing Pumpkins – Zero

I just did a drum cover of the Smashing Pumpkins song Zero and I wanted a kit that sounded similar. Jimmy Chamberlin’s kit is not very unique but the snare drum is really where I put the focus. While the snare drum is not exact, my version has a little more ring to it, I thought it was close; at least for this song. I don’t know how it will hold up with the reset of the album… The snare drum is layered with the SD3 Core library and one from The Rock Warehouse library. The cymbals use a couple other SDX/EZX libraries but you can substitute those out if need be, the rest of the kit comes from the SD3 core library. Enjoy!.
