New Drum Cover & a New Huge Update To Site

Not sure how many people are aware of this, but close friends of Nick Menza are making new music with his drums tracks he did before he passed away.  One of those friends, David Ellefson (ex-Megadeth bassist & bandmate), teased a little snippet of the music created.  Also, I’ve been subscribed to Nick’s YouTube channel for sometime and there has been alot of work & posts on a documentary coming out entitled “This Was My Life – The Story Of Nick Menza”.

Why am I bringing all this up?  Well the drum cover I released today was mainly because of all the videos I have been watching on Nick Menza.  His drumming is so solid and the kick patterns he uses are just great.  Like the song Captive Honor from the epic album Countdown to Extinction, is a basic song with a simple tempo, but the kick pattern he used in the verses is what drove me to want to cover this song.  Plus it’s one more checked off the list to complete this whole album…which isn’t my goal really.  ??

So enjoy this cover and leave a comment on what you think!

Now, the huge updates with this website.  Yea, I spent alot of time getting this going again.  Many people probably didn’t know that I have/had another website, actually a posting forum, called SD3presets.com.  It’s main purpose was for users of the Toontrack software Superior Drummer 3 to share custom presets they have created with a specialty for ones that sound just like albums of bands.  It’s been running for almost a year and it hasn’t really taken off like I had hoped, although a user named Omega Station, has uploaded quite a few projects of some awesome bands.

So I decided to take the SD3presets site and roll it up into this website so that www.redgearmusic.com will be your one stop shop.  ?  You can find a good majority of the old posts from SD3prests (some posts I chose to not carry over) in our newly created Forums page.  You will need to register to post in the forums but registering also gives you the ability to comment on my blog posts as well!  So win/win?  Hahahah, who knows.  Oh, and if you are looking to find people to collaborate with, you’ll find a section in the forums for that as well!

I have the next drum cover already in the works.  I am 90% solid during my practice sessions and hope to shoot it by next weekend with a release date for New Years Eve.  It’s a great genre of one my all time favorite bands.  I am super stoked for you guys to check it out!  OH!!!  Slightly modified RedGear Music logo…do you like?

An Amazing Collab with Heavy in Hawaii & More Site Updates

Yesterday I released probably one of the best collaborations to date that I have ever been a part of.  It’s no suprise that the drum cover I did of Type O Negative’s “I Don’t Wanna Be Me” is my favorite release and when I was sent a rough mix sample of this song for a collaboration, I was floored!  It’s not everyday you can find someone who sings with such a deep bass range like Peter Steele but I just heard it!  You have to check this video out to believe it!  Additionally, this guys guitar work, keyboards, and shit, even video production was awesome.  It was a real pleasure doing this collaboration and hope to do many more in the future with him.

Check out his channel with his version of the video and watch until the end where he gives a recap on the collaboration.

Here on the site, you may notice things seem a little different.  I have spent some time refreshing the page, changing the overall theme, removing some old sections, and adding a FAQ section.  I did some major work on the downloads page, fixing many of the actual Superior Drummer 3 project files, and uploading a couple new ones.  The previous uploads of my SD3 projects were configured for how I use them in my DAW and this might not work out very well for people who download them.  So now, this has been fixed and I also fixed some BPM issues in a couple that were never set in the project file.  My bad!  ?

I am very close to start filming another drum cover.  The practice sessions have been almost flawless with 1 or 2 mistakes; so I plan to shoot this video before Thanksgiving.  Aside from that, have a great Thanksgiving and leave a comment on that collaboration video if you haven’t already!  ??

Happy Halloween! A New Themed Drum Cover & Other News

Happy Halloween! ?? I released a Halloween drum cover about 2 weeks ago and is probably the first time I ever released a themed drum cover.  I wanted to originally put the song out today for Halloween but the song was featured in the new Halloween Kills movie and I decided to release it on the day the movie was released instead.  Additionally, there was no really good cover of the song on YouTube that was 100% accurate (not saying mine is either, but it’s damn close).

I’ve also been working on a huge project that I will release eventually on the YouTube channel.  The first month and a half was figuring out the best drum kit preset to use.  I got that figured out and now I am in the process of the rest of the project and as of today, I am 15% done with the project.  I still have a LONG way to go but I know some of it will go by quickly and I’m trying to get the difficult shit out of the way.  My projected completion date is late summer/early fall of 2022.  ??

Then here on the website, I did upload one more Superior Drummer 3 project for download.  I chose to  upload the Three Days Grace song Just Like You.  Head on over to the Download section to the entire list.  Don’t forget about the Detailed View of all my projects (also found on the individual downloads pages) of what additional Superior Drummer 3 expansions you need for my project files.

Collab with Cavemen from Finland & some other updates

Doing some work here on the website today.  Finally getting around to updating my SD3 Projects spreadsheet, which I don’t think I have ever displayed here on the actual website.  Basically it’s a detailed catalog of what Toontrack expansions I used for all my drum covers.   Why would you need this information?  You probably don’t but if you DO download one of my SD3 projects, you may need the expansion I used if you want it to sound the same.  You can check out that spreadsheet here.  I have this also linked on each download page entry for quick access as well.

On Satuday October 9th, I released a collaboration video with some boys from Findland called Cavemen At Work.  I was contacted by the bassist about the drum cover I did for the Ghost song Ritual wondering if they could use my drumming and video for a video they were putting together.  I agreed.  They ended up on using the MIDI information for their version of the song on their channel but they were gracious enough to send me their drumless audio so I can re-mix my actual drum audio back in.  You can check out my version of the collaboration video here.

I have another drum cover video in process now and looking to upload on or near Halloween.  It’s theme based…so you can only guess as to who it is I am covering.  ??

New drum cover released!

I released a new drum cover on August 11th and I wasn’t expecting too much traffic to it since it’s not a popular song from a non-popular band.  Man was I wrong!  While the views on the video are still rather low (for now), the comments I have gotten on it are all amazing.  It just goes to show how much people do support the work you put in on the channel.  Suprisingly, I recieved a comment from my dad, which tugged on my heart strings a little there; also the embaressment strings as well.  But I am not ashamed to know my parents have always supported me in my drumming adventure from a very young age.  Without them, I would not be playing at all!

I had a lot of fun (for the most part) doing this drum cover as I am a huge fan of Ra and I highly recommend everybody checking them out!  The recording process was frustrating at times because I messed up in the begining quite a bit -it always seem to happen that I mess up on easy shit as soon as the camera starts rolling.  From the very begining of planning this song out, I thought I would have to do this video in at least 2 takes because I am not a very good double bass player and the middle bridge features strictly that.  Nothing too hard, but for me, getting it clean would be key.  Suprisingly, I got in one take!  Well, minus the 7 other takes I did for the begining mess ups.

Well, that’s all for today’s blog.  I am slowly uploading additional SD3 projects, so check the downloads section to see if anything is there that peaks your interest.
