He Sure Does Go Separate Ways Sometimes

One man band, Steve, showed us a cover song he was working on -Journey’s Separate Ways.  It sounded great because he turned this 80’s classic tune into a pretty hardcore metal version; check it out here. Well, I wanted to record the drums for it and what perfect way to finalize the song but to have Rachael sing it!  So we got to work and here it is, a kick ass metal cover of Separate Ways.  We got some other things in the works as well, hopefully getting done sooner than later, but you know how long things take with us.

The Voice Of An Angel

The Voice of An Angel? For sure that’s what we think because this girl, Rachael, can sing -even in the shittiest of microphones. I keep saying, imagine what she would sound like with a great mic in ideal conditions! Since we started this project around 2001, it took us 17 years to find someone to sing and Rachael just happened to contact us because of a reddit post I made in the Ghost subreddit. So she learned the Reaper DAW and sharing via OneDrive very quickly (unlike some people I know 😛 ) and laid her tracks down. Steve then remastered everything using Logic Pro X and the rest is history; or will be history. It’s an exciting time for us in Red Gear and I expect some really cool things coming in the future. We have another project in the works picked by Tom -we’ll see how that turns out. We have some other ideas we are kicking around now that Rachael is onboard for some song. Our discord channel is alive with activity, that’s for sure.

So here are the two tracks featuring Rachael on vocals…

Well That Was Unexpected

I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING.  Coming hot off the Square Hammer release in February, we dove into the next cover song beginning of July 2017, and by the end of July the song was taking awesome shape.  From that point, all work stopped on the song.  Frustrated, I tried to keep myself busy by completing a few songs with our friend Joe in Vegas, completed drum tracks for another song for the vault, and completed a drum cover for this song.  Then around mid-January, Steve & Tom finally got back to work and nailed down their parts.  Just like previous songs, Steve killed it again doing a lot of guitar work, bass, and the keyboards; and the keyboards is what make this song!  Tom’s solo (2nd part) was just perfect and the acoustic work in the beginning sounded amazing.  By all means, this song isn’t 100% perfect -but you have to remember we all do this remotely and don’t record with each other in person.  I think we are done covering Ghost for now, although one of the songs I have completed is another Ghost song.  😉  Anyways, enjoy this cover of Cirice!

Are You On The Level? With This One, We Are…

Frank messages us and says “You guys should cover this song”.  Interesting.  I have a listen and I fall in love with it immediately and I said to myself, “We do need to cover it”.  The song features an upbeat tempo, some great guitar work, and KEYBOARDS…LOTS OF ‘EM!  So I said to Frank, “Only if you do the bass track” (remember he left the project to do other things), and he said yes.  The other guys were on board right away so we got to work.  Within 3 days of building the project file, it was already taking shape.  Steve really out did himself on this one nailing all the keyboard parts, which is what makes this song, Frank laid down a solid bass track, and Steve & Tom solidified the song up with killer guitars.  The drums took longer than I wanted, only because we wanted the perfect complimentary sound, so I went away from my traditional EZ Drummer2 sounds and started using SSD4 (Steven Slate Drums).  Steve really came through again on this, customizing a killer drum sound for the song.  All in all, this is probably our best cover song to date…I think I said that before, but for real, this is our best one.

Timing Is Everything, After All It Took A Long Time

**NEWS FLASH**  We broke our own record for releasing a new song, less than 1 week!  Ah who are we kidding… this song has been a project file for, I kid you not, 8 years!  Want proof, well here is a drum video I did 8 years ago from when we actually started this song.  It wasn’t until about 2 weeks ago we actually got back around to it and we re-did everything over.  Still it’s pretty impressive knowing our track record with recording songs.  The song is Time After Time originally done by Cyndi Lauper but recovered by Quiet Drive, and the re-recovered by us; we seem to do that a lot..think that is 3 for us now.  Can you name those 3?  Put it in the comments if you do.  We are starting to show some real talent here with keyboards, synth, and some strange ass effects.  Check it out and show us some love on Twitter.
